How the conversion works

OBJ is a text-based mesh format from the DCC world (Blender, Maya, ZBrush). It can reference materials through a separate .mtl file; this tool reads the geometry.

What survives the OBJ to STL conversion?

Geometry comes through completely: every triangle, at full precision. Materials, textures, and vertex colors are dropped, because STL as written here stores plain triangles only.

Is there a file size limit?

Files up to 150 MB work. Heavier meshes convert too, they just take longer; if a file is unwieldy, reduce its triangle count first with the reduce tool.
