Hey everyone!
If you're reading this, you've probably found your way to GrandpaCAD, and I'm super excited to have you here. For those who are new, GrandpaCAD is my little project to make 3D modeling and printing accessible to everyone. No need to learn complex CAD software – just describe what you want, and our AI will try its best to build it for you.
We're currently in "beta," which is just a fancy way of saying we're still figuring things out and building this thing together. This post is all about what that means for you.
Think of the beta phase as an early-access pass. You get to play with the latest and greatest, and in return, you help me iron out the kinks. It's a team effort!
The core of GrandpaCAD is up and running. You can definitely create some pretty cool and complex CAD designs, make parameterized models that others can tweak, and even export multi-part models using the .3mf format.
But, and this is a big but, it's not perfect yet. The number one goal for getting out of beta is making the AI model generations more reliable and just... better. Right now, you might need to try a few different prompts to get the result you're looking for. For a full list of what's new and what's fixed, your best bet is to check out the changelog.
Yep, you can try it out for free! There's also a paid tier if you find yourself wanting to do a lot more model generations. We'll see how things go, but for now, I want to make sure everyone can give it a spin.
.3mf for exports. I'd love to add more options like STL and STEP, but I want to hear from you first. What do you need? Let me know!Seriously, your feedback is what will make GrandpaCAD great.
Send Feedback button on the generation page or head over to the Contact page.I know it can be a bit nerve-wracking to use a beta product, so let's talk about your data.
What's next for GrandpaCAD?
To sum it all up: GrandpaCAD is a powerful tool for creating simple 3D prints from a text prompt, but it's not magic (yet!). Expect to have some fun, create some cool stuff, but also be prepared to iterate on your prompts a bit to get the perfect model.
Thanks for being a part of this journey. I can't wait to see what you create!
